Common Questions

What prospective members often ask

The best way to learn is to speak with a member, but these answers can help you understand the basics before that first conversation.

Do I have to join all three York Rite bodies?

The York Rite journey begins with the Royal Arch Degrees. Many members continue through Council and Commandery, but the exact path and timing should be discussed with your local York Rite leaders.

Do I need to be a Christian to join the Royal Arch?

The specific Christian profession applies to the final two Orders of the Commandery. Royal Arch and Cryptic membership begins with the requirement that you be a Master Mason and meet the applicable qualifications of the local bodies.

What happens after I contact you?

Your inquiry can be referred to a nearby York Rite body. A member or secretary can then contact you, answer questions, explain the local schedule, and help you obtain a petition when appropriate.

Is contacting the York Rite a commitment to join?

No. Reaching out is simply an opportunity to learn more and decide whether the York Rite is the right next step in your Masonic journey.

How long does the process take?

Timing varies according to the meeting calendar, petition process, and Degree schedule of the local bodies. Your local secretary can provide the most accurate information.
